Why does internal linking matter for SEO?
Internal links decide two things: which of your pages get discovered and crawled, and how authority flows between them. A page nothing links to contextually is a page Google treats as marginal, however good it is. Internal linking is also the only ranking lever you control entirely.
How many internal links should a page have?
There is no number worth chasing. What matters is that every link is there because a reader might follow it. In practice an article of 1 500 words carries 3 to 10 contextual links comfortably; a navigation full of links that repeat site-wide adds nothing beyond the first occurrence.
What makes good anchor text?
Wording that describes the destination. "Click here" and a bare URL waste the signal entirely; the exact target keyword repeated on every link reads as manipulation. Descriptive and varied is the range to stay in.
What does rel="nofollow" do to an internal link?
It tells Google not to pass ranking signals through it. On internal links it is almost always a mistake — you are withholding authority from your own pages. Reserve it for links you genuinely do not endorse, which is rarely your own site.
